APARTMENT HOUSING IN POLIČKA

We perceive the town of Polička as a coherent urban structure, which historically developed from the medieval core, consisting of the main square, churches and houses gathered in one place behind already non-existing city fortifications. The new urban structures that were created gradually in later periods seem to envelop the historical part of the city in a logical order and create various forms of urban structures from blocks, soliters, single-family houses, detached family houses and row housings with private garden behind them. The plot is situated directly in this type of urban structure of row buildings in close contact with the historical core of the city. The city decided to transform the only house currently standing in the middle of the plot into an apartment building, which previous purpose used to be an orphanage. Our urban concept is based on its central location on the property and we propose 2 new forms around it. . The "line" house in the northern part of the plot, which complements the street development with row family houses and tries to unify the character of the street and the "twin" house in the southern part of the plot, with the same footprint as the original orphanage building. The chessboard arrangement of the "twins" hierarchizes the territory and the space between them and creates 2 open areas for residents with different functions and forms. The larger grassy and threshed semi-public surface serves as a relaxation and community space oriented towards the houses and the street, while the smaller one located behind the houses provides a safer place for the smallest residents - children.
