TROYER SQUARE AND ART SCHOOL IN STUPAVA

The population density in Stupava, which is in close proximity to the capital city, has doubled in last 15 years and the infrastructure could not keep up with the pace. A city with 16 000 inhabitants uses facility of a city of 8 000. We perceive Stupava and especially its newer parts as a non-compact and not very friendly urban enviroment. Spatial clarity could be the recipe for such a incoherent and dynamic image of the city. The ambitious project of the art school and the square is intended to strengthen urbanity and polycentricity of the city. We propose a clear urbanistic space, defined by the basic architectural forms of a new buildings for art school and concert hall, in formally and colorfully exuberant environment. The urban concept is organized around a central circular space, which is a park and an arena for events at the same time. Around this circle, both existing and proposed buildings are freely arranged and create a kind of "festival urbanism" around a flexible public space. The chessboard layout of the new buildings hierarchises the territory, creating one large open space with an outdoor arena for events and one smaller, responding to the proposed pedestrian route along the stream. We also decided to preserve the old mansion building which serves as caffé/bar.
